Plan to build an ‘ego wall‘

Plan to build an ‘ego wall‘
Cheryll Gillespie
Some might argue that having an ego is an intrinsically bad thing. I actually don‘t believe that to be true. When I look at folks who I am inspired by and who I believe to be successful, the one common character that they all seem to possess is an ego.
The most successful parents I know love to brag about their children‘s accomplishments, which are also their accomplishments; the most powerful business people are eager to share their success stories; the most celebrated artisans are more than willing to show off their latest works.
Sharing your accomplishments and being proud of your achievements is an often misconceived, negatively-viewed trait that I personally encourage. I love to hear success stories, to share the excitement of the success of others, to learn from the experience and to get to know the champion.
At home my personal mantra is that we should all have a wall of fame or a trophy room. Whether it is a wall in the home office, the family room or a hallway, why not create a stage for all that you and your loved ones are most proud of? That way, when you invite me over for a glass of wine, you can share the wall and help me get to know you a little better. Or, when one of you is having a bad day, you can look back at all your successes and triumphs hanging there and realize that you can accomplish anything.
So gather up those old or not-so-old sports trophies, medallions, photos and plaques, and get ready to create one of the most intriguing areas of your home. Remember, I‘m always telling you that your rooms need to tell a story – your story – and this is one of the most important chapters in that story book, the chapter that celebrates those big moments in your life.
Don‘t for a moment tell me you haven‘t had any. We all have. They can be as personal as the birth of a child, in which case we could frame and hang photos of you and your children. A photo of you and the girls at your 40th birthday party. Who thought we would make it to this ripe old age? Include certificates from your volunteer accomplishments.
You get the ‘picture‘. Include all those moments when you said to yourself “I did it!”. These are the moments we need to remember and to celebrate – whether they appear large or minute to others is irrelevant – they are important to us and therefore should be put on a pedestal (or on our  ego wall).
Remember that ‘the gathering of accomplishments‘ is an on-going assignment, one that will grow over time, so plan for this. Your wall will most likely and will be more interesting if it includes horizontal space where you can place accolades such as trophies and standing frames next to wall-hung items. Employ a floating wall shelf or two, or plan to place a bureau or table against the wall for display purposes. Allow for the evolution of your ego wall, as your achievements evolve.
Visualize yourself adding to your wall on a good day or going to your wall when you have just had a horrible day, to look back so you can move forward with a positive attitude. Your ego wall is an integral part of who you are, so get it up and out there at home.
Is this not a beautiful and chic way at home to remind us to always push to be better people?
DESIGNER SECRETS
Choosing the paint sheen is almost as important as choosing the paint colour. designers know that a matt paint will make colours appear deeper and more luxurious.
DESIGNER THOUGHTS
Wondering what style to decorate your room in? Ponder this: rooms, like great conversations, require a difference of opinion. if we all shared the same opinion, this show would be boring. Make sure your rooms are full of your opinions
